Description
From my recent photo expedition to Central UT. This was the view from my camp site on the evening of 5/16. My tent was set up right behind this position, and this storm cloud blew in right around sunset.
After dark, the wind started to pick up, and the sand was blowing to the point I had to put on goggles and use my Buff to cover my mouth and nose. According to the weather service (next day reports,) the top wind gusts were around 60-70mph (97-113 km/h) blowing sand in a veritable "desert storm"...
Unfortunately, my tent (MSR Hubba Hubba) didn't make it through the storm - it was picked up and overturned (with my sleeping bag etc. inside,) and the main pole broke and ripped the rainfly :(.
PITA when it happened; now a fun story to tell.
