Description
Captured at Capitol Reef National Park during a photography trip to various central-Utah parks. After driving through the park and surrounding area looking for locations to capture the sunset and sunrise, I settled on a cliff off of US-24, called ‘Mummy Cliff.’ There is a parking area to visit a rock formation right to the West of the mesa, called ‘Chimney Rock,’ as well as some nice hiking paths. It definitely worthwhile just to stop there and hike the round trip trail from the parking area – about 3 miles of great vistas. I would recommend walking the path in clockwise direction to avoid the steep climb up to the mesa, although it will be a steep descent back to the parking area, if taken this way… The above photograph was taken right after sunset overlooking the valley from Mummy Cliff, to the South-East. While the sky wasn’t too cloudy, after the sun set, the high-level Cirrus clouds started lighting up in beautifully subtle shades of yellow, orange, and pink, creating a stunning contrast to the darker and fuller reds of the reef.
